Knoxville Asian Festival to return, marking start of second ‘life cycle’

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) – The Knoxville Asian Festival is gearing up for its return over the weekend, and this year’s event will be extra special, marking the next “life” of the festival.

This year’s event will mark the 13th. Executive Director of the Asian Culture Center of Tennessee Kumi Alderman outlined why that’s a big deal.

“Twelve years is one cycle of the life in Asia. Have you seen when you go to a Chinese restaurant and you see the animals, the Riyak? That’s 12 years,” she said. “We finished in one cycle of the, you know, life.”…
