VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — The Virginia Department of Health confirmed two cases of West Nile virus in Virginia Beach residents in August.
According to Stephanie Hudson with VDH, there are mosquito pools that have tested positive across the region.
There are currently six human cases of West Nile virus in Virginia, according to a previous report from VDH.

Following the increase in the number of mosquitos testing positive for the West Nile virus, the City of Virginia Beach advised residents to take the following precautions:
- Pour out any containers on your property that collect water on a weekly basis, as standing water is a breeding site for mosquitoes.
- Wear long sleeves and long pants, as well as loose-fitting, light-color clothing.
- Reduce outdoor activity around dusk and dawn, which is when mosquitoes with West Nile virus are most active.
- Consider using insect repellant, but be sure to follow all label instructions.
