EXETER, R.I. (WPRI) — Police, firefighters, ATF agents and the state bomb squad were called in Thursday after a military projectile was pulled out of the Pawtuxet River by a magnet fisherman.
Roads in the immediate area were closed down so crews could secure the 105 mm shell and take it to a remote location, where it was rendered safe.
The man who made the discovery, Gerard Perreault, told 12 News that while he was “shocked” by the find, it wasn’t the first time he’s had to make that type of call this year.
In fact, it was the third time.

Earlier this summer, Perreault found two World War II era grenades at Rocky Point State Park.
