OutKast’s ‘ATLiens’ Turns 30 With a Surprise Tribute to Where It All Began

Greetings earthlings.Thirty years ago this week, two teenagers from the Atlanta suburbs dropped an album that didn’t just put the South on hip-hop’s map; it redrew the whole thing, then sat back and dared you to argue. Now André 3000 and Big Boi are taking ATLiens back to the community that raised them, and stitching it onto the backs of the kids running the next fast break.

OutKast has teamed with MUNDIAL to mark the 30th anniversary of ATLiens by sponsoring youth teams from Soccer in the Streets in East Point, Georgia. The collab also produced official ATLiens jerseys the young players will wear all season.

East Point isn’t a random spot on a map someone closed their eyes and threw a dart at. The duo met as teenagers at Tri-Cities High School in the Atlanta suburb, years before “the South got something to say” became the prophetic mission statement that every kid from Atlanta who grew up in that era carried in their hearts…
