CHICAGO, ILLINOIS — Scattered showers and isolated downpours will move through the I-80 corridor on Sunday morning, August 30, with wind gusts up to 40 to 50 mph possible in the strongest cells, according to BAM Weather. Cities including Chicago, Milwaukee, Lansing, and Saginaw fall within the highlighted activity zone as of simulated radar guidance for 9 a.m. ET.
Elongated Band of Activity Stretches From Iowa to Michigan
The shower activity forms an elongated band oriented roughly southwest to northeast, stretching from near Cedar Rapids and Peoria through Chicago and Milwaukee and continuing into Lansing and Saginaw, Michigan. BAM Weather notes the setup will bring a wet Sunday morning to much of the Great Lakes region as the system tracks through.
Wind Gusts the Primary Concern, Not Heavy Rainfall
Despite the gusty nature of the showers, BAM Weather says heavy rain is not favored with this activity, as dry air in place across the region will help limit rainfall totals. Instead, the main hazard will be isolated wind gusts reaching 40 to 50 mph, capable of downing tree limbs or causing minor, localized damage in the strongest cells.
