With high pressure to the north this evening, it will be a beautiful and comfortable evening ahead, heading into Sunday. Overnight lows look to hold in the 60s from the Allegany Mountains right down to the Chesapeake Bay.
Sunday will start dry and seasonable, but as the day wears on, it will feel more humid under a southerly wind. That southerly wind, in return, will help to bring in more humidity and thus help to bring about a few afternoon and early evening thunderstorms. Afternoon highs Sunday will range from the upper 60s in far western Maryland to around 90 degrees in the Beltway.
Heading into the last week of August and the first of September, confidence is high that summertime heat returns to the DMV for most of next week. Current thinking is that the area will have highs in the 90s Monday through Thursday, with “feel-like” temperatures getting into the triple-digit heat category. Wednesday looks to be the hottest day at this time, with potential for heat advisories across portions of the Shenandoah Valley and across the DC and into Southern Maryland. Along with the heat building this week, some individual disturbances in the atmosphere will pass through our region, bringing daily chances for afternoon storms. Model guidance already is showing the potential for severe weather, with the focus on Wednesday through Friday as the main days for the highest chance of severe weather.
