INDIANOLA, Iowa — Indianola officials say a lithium-ion battery is to blame for a dump truck fire that sparked Friday.
The City of Indianola posted on its Facebook page, saying the city fire department was called to a dump truck on Friday after a fire sparked in the vehicle. According to officials, a lithium-ion battery was mixed in with the standard garbage and sparked the blaze.
The driver dumped all the trash from the vehicle so crews could address the fire, causing a partial shutdown in the roadway. Once the fire was addressed, an additional crew was called in to clean up the trash and the scene.
Lithium-ion batteries are rechargeable devices often used to power electronics and electric vehicles. While they store lots of energy, have a long life cycle, and retain a charge over long periods of time, they can also be a fire hazard due to overheating or damage…
