Kayla Benham had just moved into a new apartment when she drove to Success Storage near SW 3rd Street in Oklahoma City to grab her belongings, only to find her unit and several others had been broken into. Locks were sawed off, units were emptied and trashed, and her television, her son’s new Xbox, couch sets, and her grandmother’s wedding ring were gone.
Benham estimated her losses at around $10,000 worth of belongings, including family heirlooms she can never replace, according to News 9. When Benham reached the facility’s owner, he told her there was no office manager on site and nobody was even in Oklahoma City to oversee the property, and he said there was nothing he could do.
Other Success Storage customers told police they had been unable to reach anyone in charge for more than two weeks, according to a police report cited in the outlet’s report. When a responding Oklahoma City Police Department officer arrived, they found numerous storage units broken into and left unsecured, with belongings scattered throughout the hallways.

The scene inside the facility went beyond typical burglary damage.
