The Oklahoma Sooners want 2028 defensive tackle Kellan Hall badly, and now there’s a visit date.
The Oklahoma Sooners are making a serious push for one of the best players in the entire 2028 recruiting class. And the early signs look promising. Five-star defensive tackle Kellan Hall, the No. 2 overall player in the country according to Rivals’ composite rankings, has locked in 10 game-day visits this fall. Oklahoma secured one of those coveted slots, with Hall scheduled to visit Norman on Sept. 19.
Hall carries a 97.70 composite rating on Rivals, ranks as the No. 1 defensive tackle in the 2028 class. He is also the top-ranked player in the state of Kentucky. He plays at Christian Academy of Louisville, stands 6’5 “, weighs 280 pounds, and projects as the type of prospect who could contribute immediately upon arriving on campus. That combination of size and athleticism makes him one of the most sought-after recruits in the cycle, and the Sooners know it.
Why Oklahoma needs Kellan Hall
The Sooners need Hall in this class. When you look at the defensive tackles they currently have in Jayden Jackson and David Stone, Hall reminds me a lot of Stone. I don’t think he’s going to end up being as big as David Stone, but the way they play in the pass and the run is very similar. Hall could end up as an interior guy, or he could play on the edge. He profiles as a player who can line up anywhere from a 3-tech to a 5-tech, maybe even a 7-tech. That kind of versatility is rare. The Sooners are going to need a player like Hall because eventually all these guys they’ve been recruiting the last few years will be gone. Hall is a player projected to quite literally take over games. Once he gets into an SEC strength-and-conditioning program, the growth trajectory could be frightening. He’s going to be a monster.
Game day visits change everything under Brent Venables
Oklahoma’s 2028 class currently has one commit: quarterback Trey Tagliaferri. That’s fine for where things stand. The class is still early, and the Sooners are already being predicted to land several other prospects. Getting Hall on campus for a game day visit on Sept. 19 feels like the right timing. We know based on last year, and even the year before, that when Brent Venables and his staff get these players on campus for game days, it completely changes their recruitment. The Sooners don’t always win these battles, but the visits always make a difference. You consistently hear about players walking away saying how the visit was incredible, the atmosphere was different, and that it moved Oklahoma up their list…
