Construction on Sam Wilson Road bridge in west Charlotte expected to start in late September: NCDOT

CHARLOTTE (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — In three weeks, the North Carolina Department of Transportation is expected to start construction on Sam Wilson Road in west Charlotte.

The construction is expected to start on September 21 and close both directions of Sam Wilson Road at the bridge near the I-85 ramps. Officials expect the Sam Wilson Road bridge to be closed for one year during the construction.

NCDOT suggests two different detours while the bridge is closed:

  • West Detour Option (blue route) – Sam Wilson to Performance Road to Moores Chapel Road to U.S. 29/74
  • East Detour Option (pink route) – Sam Wilson to Moores Chapel Road to I-485 to U.S. 29/74​​​​

This is all part of a $45 million project to widen parts of I-85 and I-485…
