Target pulls controversial southeast Gilbert plan

Months after a proposed Target store split the council and the community, the big-box retailer has backed out of coming to Higley Station in southeast Gilbert.

The 16.14-acre parcel at the southeast corner of Ocotillo and Higley roads is currently owned by the Basha family through its firm GB Investments Inc.

“The Town was informed by someone from Target or the property owners informed the Town that Target is no longer purchasing the property,” Councilman Jim Torgeson said last week. “I don’t think they saw themselves being welcomed in the community.”…
