Semi crash leaves Martin Luther King Jr. Drive East closed, traffic to be affected Monday morning

An evening crash on the I-71 southbound on-ramp left a Petro-Canada Lubricants semitruck hanging partway off an overpass on Aug. 30, 2026. A section of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive East adjacent to the University of Cincinnati’s Digital Futures building was closed around 5:15 p.m. and remained closed until after 8 p.m. due to the crash.

The Cincinnati Fire Department (CFD) responded quickly. The team removed two passengers from the cabin of the truck before detaching the bed from the cabin. Firefighters then began sawing away a protective fence that the cabin crashed into. Once the truck cabin was dislodged, the team used a small crane to lift the cabin off of the ledge of the overpass.

According to CFD Assistant Chief Matt Flagler, the section of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive East will be reopened in time for Monday morning rush hour…
