After weeks of sweltering temperatures, Southern California is finally getting some relief, but those hoping to cool off at the beach may want to think twice.
A cooling trend is underway across the region Sunday, but strong surf and dangerous rip currents are creating hazardous conditions along the coast, with waves reaching up to 6 feet in some areas.
A beach hazards statement is in effect through Monday afternoon for Ventura County beaches, the Malibu coast and Los Angeles County beaches, according to the National Weather Service. Dangerous rip currents and breaking waves with isolated sets up to 6 feet are possible as a series of southerly swells moves into the region.
