A homeless man in Fruitland Park was arrested after allegedly attacking his girlfriend when she tried to leave their car.
An officer responded to a domestic battery near U.S. Hwy. 27/441 and Register Road around 7:50 a.m. Tuesday, according to an arrest report from the Fruitland Park Police Department. A deputy had already been flagged down by the girlfriend of 35-year-old Joel Colon Quintana, who fled after being beaten by him.
When the officer spoke to the girlfriend, she was visibly shaken, covered in dirt, and had multiple marks on her hands and face. She had a large lump on her right temple, and her left hand was beginning to swell and bruise. Her back pant pocket was also torn in a way that made it appear as if it had been ripped off, the report said.
EMS was treating the girlfriend when she advised that she and Colon Quintana had been dating for two years, although they were on and off for the past month. That morning, they were at a gas station trying to buy things with her Cash App. She did not have enough money, and he called her stupid, the report said…
