Fairview Crosswalk Petition Reaches 1,000 Signatures

A petition seeking a traffic signal at a Fairview crosswalk has reached 1,000 signatures following an Aug. 19 crash that injured two Fairview middle school students, prompting the school district, township and Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to pursue a formal safety study.

The students were struck by a vehicle while crossing State Route 98, also known as Avonia Road, at Oakwilde Drive near the entrance to the Evergreen Farms subdivision. The Fairview School District said both students are recovering well.

The intersection has rectangular rapid flashing beacons, or RRFBs, that pedestrians activate by pressing a button. The yellow lights flash to alert drivers that pedestrians are crossing.
