With a major holiday coming up, extra law enforcement will be trying to keep the roads safe for motorists.
The Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB) is partnering with law enforcement statewide to support enforcement efforts aimed at decreasing impaired driving. Dallas County Sheriff Adam Infante says deputies will be out looking for impaired drivers and seatbelt violators along with other traffic issues.
“I think if you’re traveling in the state of Iowa, especially in central Iowa, you’re going to see an increased traffic presence with every metro law enforcement agency as we all probably have GTSB grants and are going to be using them on these big holidays, Labor Day, Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Christmas, Thanksgiving. That’s when they really want us out there, when there’s a lot more traffic, and it just happens to coincide with the weekend after school starts the beginning of harvest. There’s going to be a lot more traffic out there than everybody’s been used to for the last three months. So we’re gonna do our best to slow people down, make sure they’re not on their cell phones, wearing their seat belts, and most importantly, not driving under the influence of any drugs or alcohol.”…
