DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines Public Schools announced that a burst pipe caused flooding at its nutrition center over the weekend.
In a message to Des Moines Public School families Sunday evening, the district announced that an eight-inch fire sprinkler pipe burst inside its Central Nutrition Center over the weekend, causing flooding in portions of the building.

The center supports meal service for schools across DMPS. Officials say the Security and Food & Nutrition team responded immediately and have since contacted state and local officials regarding cleanup efforts, food safety and reopening the affected areas.
“The safety of our students and the food we serve is our highest priority. Our team is working on contingency plans to keep providing meals to students while the facility is being assessed and restored,” a portion of the DMPS message read. “To be clear: Meals will continue to be provided to students at no cost to families.”…
