Recently there has been some discussion about what the Portland Clean Energy Community Benefits Fund should be spent on, (“Where Portland residents think more clean energy funding should go,” July 3).
I would like the clean energy fund to continue helping other public agencies while reducing pollution and carbon emissions in the city.First, the fund should continue to help fund the conversion of the TriMet and Portland Public Schools bus fleets to e-buses. These entities are hurting for money right now and always seem to be. Both fleets should be fully converted as soon as possible. E-buses are expensive (they cost several hundred thousand dollars each, plus more for chargers), but once bought, they require less maintenance and have lower fuel costs than internal combustion buses…
