SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) — Smoke from multiple large wildfires that continue to burn in Monterey County is expected to drift into the San Francisco Bay Area this week, officials announced Monday. An air quality advisory is now in effect through Tuesday.
The Timber Fire and the Plaskett Fire have collectively burned more than 40,000 acres along the Big Sur coastline as of Monday, according to Cal Fire. The Bay Area Air District said smoky, hazy skies may be visible, and there is the possibility of the smell of smoke on Monday and Tuesday.

“While smoke is expected to remain aloft, conditions can change rapidly and the amount and location of smoke at ground level is hard to predict,” air officials wrote.
The district is reminding residents that wildfire smoke is unhealthy to breathe, even for short periods of time. People are advised to stay inside with the windows and doors closed as temperatures allow.
“Residents can also reduce their exposure to smoke by setting their car vent systems to re-circulate to prevent outside air from moving inside,” BAAD wrote. “If smoke is impacting your area, the use of indoor air filtration or going to a Clean Air Center or other location with filtered air, such as a library or mall, can also help reduce smoke exposure.”…
