BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Governor Jeff Landry recently sent a letter to the Louisiana High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) regarding the use and/or possession of marijuana close to a school campus.
A new law passed during the 2026 Regular Session increased the penalty for possessing marijuana in a school zone from a fine to jail time. Individuals can now face up to one year in prison and a $1,000 fine.
