KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A lawsuit filed on August 25 against the City of Kansas City alleges that a long-time city employee was demoted and retaliated against after refusing to use city resources to assist with Mayor Pro Tem Ryana Parks-Shaw’s mayoral campaign.
Keema McCoy, a 15-year employee of Kansas City, claims she was reassigned from her role as an aide to a lower-paying position at the city’s 311 call center after raising concerns about ethical and policy violations.
According to the lawsuit, Parks-Shaw launched her campaign for Kansas City Mayor in August 2025, after which McCoy allegedly began receiving campaign-related calls and emails on her city-issued phone and email account.
