Merit commission recommends firing Evansville police officer

EVANSVILLE – The Evansville Police Merit Commission has recommended firing an EPD officer who was accused of pointing a handgun at another officer last year.

Anthony Dale Stephenson, 29, appears under the “pending discipline” section of the agenda for Monday’s merit commission meeting. According to EPD spokeswoman Officer Taylor Merriss, the commission approved a 21-day suspension for Stephenson at its Aug. 10 gathering.

“During the open session of the meeting, the commission made a motion to modify the discipline to include termination of employment,” she said Thursday. “The motion was approved.”…
