Life sentence handed down to former East Point officer convicted of assaulting teen

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — A former East Point police officer found guilty of sexually assaulting a teenage girl was sentenced to life in prison, plus 20 years, on Tuesday.

Earlier this month, Richard Gooddine was convicted of aggravated sexual battery, child molestation, enticing a child for indecent purposes and two counts of threatening or causing physical or economic harm to hinder or delay testimony or prosecution.

According to prosecutors, the 15-year-old victim said Gooddine detained her for violating curfew before assaulting her. Her mother took her to the hospital to have a rape kit performed, but Gooddine showed up in uniform to intimidate her, prosecutors said.
