Police Chief departs Hamilton for Columbus Airport

Hamilton Police Chief Eric Weiss is departing his position in Harris County for a new job with the Columbus Airport. Chief Weiss confirmed to NowGeorgia.com that he will serve as the Chief of Public Safety for the airport in his next chapter. He called the job change “bittersweet” because usually people leave a job in difficult times but that he was leaving the Hamilton Police Department in “a really good place.”

Chief Weiss said he currently resides in Columbus so the job change will actually bring him closer to home. His last day as Chief of Police in Hamilton will be October 20, 2026. After he made the announcement official in a social media post several residents and colleagues expressed how sorry they were to see him leave his current post. “Thank you for coming in during a rough time and straightening things out. Good luck in your future endeavors. Former Mayor Julie Zimmerman Brown.”

Most commenters expressed gratitude to Eric Weiss for going above and beyond during his tenure at the Hamilton Police Department. “Thank you for your service, Chief. I appreciate you always being willing to step up and help with our efforts to expand mental health services in the County. I look forward to hearing more great things ahead for you.”…
