A nor’easter is beginning to strengthen as millions of people along the East Coast face the risk of heavy rains, flooding and tropical storm-like winds.
WRAL reports the storm hit North Carolina’s coast early Thursday morning with wind gusts up to 50 mph, causing dangerous waves as high as 15 to 18 feet along the Outer Banks. The state Department of Transportation closed N.C. 12 between the Basnight Bridge and Rodanthe due to major ocean overwash.
Multiple states, including parts of Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey, could also see coastal flooding and beach erosion as the nor’easter moves off the Mid-Atlantic Coast and heads northeast towards New York and New England.
