LELAND, N.C. (WECT) – Leland Town Council unanimously voted Thursday to ask federal leaders to rethink plans for replacing the aging Cape Fear Memorial Bridge in Wilmington.
Earlier this week, the council discussed passing a resolution and sending a letter to members of Congress, asking them to push for changes to the project.
The resolution that passed Sept. 24 requests a Section 216 review and urges the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to reevaluate bridge clearance requirements for ships that would pass below any bridge on the Cape Fear River. Current law requires 120 to 147 feet of vertical clearance for passing ships…
