(MANITOU SPRINGS, Colo.) — A 10-year-old boy has received a 911 Hero Award for staying calm and taking action when his father suffered a medical emergency on Barr Trail in July.
David Miller took over an emergency call and guided rescue crews to assist his father, Kristopher Miller, near the Manitou Incline. The incident occurred when Kristopher Miller became severely dehydrated after giving his remaining water supply to his children during their hike. When his father collapsed and had trouble breathing, David communicated with emergency dispatchers, described his father’s condition, provided their location and coordinated with other hikers to direct first responders to the scene.
