GULF COAST — The Weather Prediction Center has placed a large part of the Gulf Coast and Deep South under a Level 2 of 4 slight risk for excessive rainfall and flash flooding this Saturday. The risk area stretches from southern Louisiana through Mississippi and Alabama into Tennessee, including New Orleans, Jackson, Birmingham, and Nashville. A very moist, tropical air mass is expected to fuel heavy downpours capable of causing localized flooding.
Level 2 Risk Stretches From Louisiana to Tennessee
The Level 2 slight risk covers a long corridor beginning along the Louisiana coast, including New Orleans, and extending north through Mississippi, including Jackson. It continues into western and central Alabama, including Birmingham, and reaches the far western Florida Panhandle near Pensacola.
The risk area then stretches northeast into
, covering Nashville and reaching toward Knoxville. Communities within this zone face a greater chance of flash flooding from intense rainfall on Saturday.
Level 1 Risk Surrounds a Wider Area
