Bedford Water customers across Bedford County are being asked to cut their water use by 5% to 10% until further notice, WSLS reported on Sunday. The request is voluntary.
Bedford Water issued the request in a press release on October 2. The utility said the county is in severe drought, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor, but that its supply remains reliable.
Three Sources, All Affected by Drought
Bedford Water draws on Lynchburg Water Resources (which sells it water), Stoney Creek Reservoir and Smith Mountain Lake. That mix let the utility meet demand through the summer without asking most customers to conserve.
