Police telling trucking companies to use better trailer locks in wake of meat theft plaguing Philadelphia

Police in Philadelphia are telling trucking companies to start using better locks on their trailers as cargo thefts involving meat products continue to plague the city.

The most recent theft happened just before 4 a.m. on Tuesday morning along the 2800 block of Southampton Road in Northeast Philadelphia. The truck driver says he was asleep in his rig after driving from Wisconsin when he felt his rig shaking. He was able to take a photo of the theft occurring, and ended up scaring the men off.

According to 6 ABC, “he interrupted the thefts, and they fled. Stole about five pallets of meat worth $40,000.” said Philadelphia police Capt. John Ryan of Northeast Detectives…
