Georgia Power, Alabama Power secure federal loans to modernize Plant Oliver

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) – Georgia Power and Alabama Power received a multi-billion dollar loan from the U.S. Department of Energy to modernize equipment to meet growing energy demand in both states.

Officials say the loans will save customers more than $7 billion over the next 30 years.

Upgrades underway at Plant Oliver

Plant Oliver was built in 1959 and now needs upgrades. The loan money could help cover those costs without passing them on to customers or building a new plant.
