Philly has about two days to get ready. The remnants of Hurricane Isaias, now a Category 3 storm bearing down on the Gulf Coast, are forecast to sweep into the region Sunday with 1 to 2 inches of rain, possible flooding and a chance of severe thunderstorms that could bring damaging winds or an isolated tornado.
The worst is expected Sunday into Sunday night, according to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey. Southern New Jersey and the Delmarva could see more than 2 inches, and showers may linger into early Monday.
What storm is heading toward Philly this weekend?
Isaias became the first hurricane of the 2026 Atlantic season this week and strengthened Friday into a major hurricane with winds near 120 mph. It is expected to make landfall Friday night or early Saturday somewhere between Ocean Springs, Mississippi, and the Florida Panhandle.
The storm will weaken over land long before it reaches Pennsylvania. Its moisture, though, is expected to merge with another weather system as it moves north, and that combination is what puts Philly in the rain zone.
