The owners of Bruno’s European Restaurant, once featured on “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives,” will hang up their cooking hats one final time this weekend, as the Lakewood destination will close after service Oct. 17.
Krystyna and Bruno Tomaszewska confirmed the decision in a phone call on Tuesday. Now, joked Krystyna, they might finally “go for retirement” after 16 years running a full-service restaurant and many more serving their home-cooked German-Polish fare to the masses.
The question of signing a new lease on Bruno’s home since 2015, 10902 Bridgeport Way, arose last month, but the property owner preferred a five-year lease, said Krystyna. They simply couldn’t commit to more than a one-year or month-to-month option. She is in her late 70s and he in his late 60s, and they need to be able to focus on their personal health.
