Two convicted in fatal shooting of Shanita Thomas at Albany party

ALBANY — Two people were convicted Tuesday for the 2021 shooting death of a woman caught in the crossfire of gang violence, a prosecutor confirmed Wednesday.

A jury convicted Raa’jiem Coleman of the second-degree murder of Shanita Thomas, as well as second-degree attempted murder and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, Peter Willis — a Schenectady County Assistant District Attorney and special prosecutor for the case in Albany County Court — confirmed Wednesday. His co-defendant, Marcel Perry, was convicted of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon.

Coleman and Perry were indicted on murder charges in October 2022 alongside Terrence Anthony. Another man, Vramir Branch, was charged with Thomas’ murder a year earlier. Both Anthony and Branch pleaded guilty to second-degree criminal possession of a weapon on Oct. 14, the first day of the trial.
