Tuesday Night Storms Bring Gusty Winds, Small Hail, and Brief Tornado Risk to Mississippi Including Jackson, Vicksburg, and Natchez Before Fizzling

MISSISSIPPI — A cold front will bring a chance for storms across central and southwest Mississippi on Tuesday and Tuesday night. The overall severe threat is low, with gusty winds, brief heavy rain, small hail, and maybe an isolated brief tornado possible as the front moves through. Storm chances will gradually fizzle as the night wears on and the line pushes east.

Storms Arrive in Western Mississippi Between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m.

The first storms are expected to reach western Mississippi between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Tuesday. Counties along the Mississippi River, including Sharkey, Issaquena, Warren, Claiborne, Jefferson, Adams, and Wilkinson, will be the first to see the line move through.

This timing puts Vicksburg and Natchez in line for storms during the early evening hours. Residents in these areas should finish outdoor plans early and be ready for gusty winds and brief downpours as the front arrives.

Jackson Metro Sees the Worst Weather From 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

The line will move into central Mississippi between 8 p.m. and 11 p.m., including the Jackson metro area. Hinds, Rankin, and Madison counties fall within this window, along with Yazoo, Humphreys, Holmes, Attala, Leake, and Scott counties.

Farther south, Copiah, Lincoln, Franklin, and Amite counties are also expected to see storms during this time frame. Gusty winds and small hail will be the main concerns as the line passes through the metro.

Southeast Counties Get Storms Between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m.

Storms will reach south-central and southeast parts of the area between 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. This late window includes Simpson, Smith, Jeff Davis, Lawrence, Pike, and Walthall counties…
