Southgate Powerball winner questioned $200,000 prize before calling Lottery

A Michigan man thought a message from the Lottery was a scam — until officials confirmed he had won $200,000 playing Powerball.

Walter Pittman, 58, of Southgate, about 9 miles south of Detroit, matched four white balls and the red Powerball in the Sept. 30 drawing to win $50,000. His Power Play option multiplied the prize to $200,000, according to the Michigan Lottery.

“I’ve been playing Powerball and Mega Millions online lately and got on the Michigan Lottery app one night to buy some tickets,” said Pittman.
