NYPD officer attempting to stop stolen SUV struck in hit-and-run on Harlem River Drive

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — An NYPD officer attempting to stop an SUV was struck in a hit-and-run on the Harlem River Drive Tuesday evening, authorities said.

It happened shortly before 6 p.m. near Exit 24, officials said.

According to police, officers were near Harlem River Drive and West 155th Street when they received a call about a stolen red Toyota Highlander prompting a pursuit to ensue.

Officers then clipped the SUV, forcing the driver to stop.

When they exited their vehicle, the driver of the Highlander attempted to drive off, striking the patrols car’s door and hitting an officer.

The Highlander sped off and the officer was taken to Harlem Hospital in stable condition.
