BROKEN ARROW, Okla. — The Broken Arrow Varsity Cheer Squad was given a hero’s welcome at the Tulsa International Airport after returning home from winning a national title at the UCA National Cheer Competition in Orlando, Florida.
They won in the Medium Gameday Coed Division.
Wearing their gold medals, they were welcomed by their loved ones carrying flowers and banners.
Makenzie Bowers is a senior and said the team worked really hard for the title.
“It was like a shocking feeling when you win. We heard the second place team get called and we were like ‘oh my God’ we just won. We all looked at each other, grabbed each other and just started freaking out,” Bowers said.
Bowers said they faced stiff competition.
“The best of the best. It’s so hard, like the tiniest mistakes can ruin your chances of winning. We had to face a couple of things the first couple of days, but the last day we got that and we got it in the bag,” Bowers said.
The team packed their busses at the airport and were given a special escort by Broken Arrow Police back to Broken Arrow High School.
