ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Anchorage snowboarder Sulynnette Vega Ledesma won a bronze medal on Tuesday at the Special Olympics World Winter Games in the Italian Alps.
Ledesma, one of three Alaskans on Team USA, placed third in the Advanced Giant Slalom in snowboarding with a cumulative time of 2 minutes, 1 second, in Bardonecchia, Italy.
Fairbanks alpine skier Teagan Lockwood and Mat-Su alpine skier Nathaniel Hunt were also in action on Tuesday, and each will be competing Wednesday in the advanced giant slalom finals.
“Today was the first day of competition for our athletes,” Special Olympics Alaska President/CEO Sarah Arts said in a statement. “Nathaniel and Teagan had a great qualifying round and Sulynnette persevered through tough conditions to take the bronze in the giant slalom.
