‘United front’: Akron businesses take stand following recent violence

AKRON, Ohio (WJW) — Businesses in Akron’s Highland Square are taking a stand this weekend in response to the recent violence in the neighborhood.

Following a shooting that injured two bystanders last weekend, bars across the district agreed to close by midnight to reduce late-night crowds and improve safety.

Many business owners and employees said the move is about protecting the community they call home.

“Highland Square is kind of like a second home to me, so it’s really just kind of sad to see the community suffering in that way,” said Bee Zak, employee of Angel Falls Coffee Company in Highland Square.
