These 2 men convicted in Portage murders are on Ohio’s death row

Among the 113 people who could be impacted by Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine’s recent push to end capital punishment in the state are two death row inmates convicted of murdering four people in Portage County.

Tyrone L. Noling, 54, was sentenced to death after his 1996 conviction in the fatal shootings of Bearnhardt and Cora Hartig, both 80, in April 1990 in their Atwater home.

Noling has always denied involvement in the Hartigs’ deaths and has continued to seek a new trial. He is being aided by the Ohio Innocence Project, a program of the University of Cincinnati School of Law dedicated to helping those it believes were wrongfully convicted of crimes…
