AKRON, Ohio (WOIO) – The Akron Zoo welcomed two snowy owlets Friday.
The zoo said adult snowy owls Frost and Cirrus welcomed the two owlets.
The sex of the owlets is unknown at this time, but they are living with their parents in a private bedroom in the zoo’s Garden View Place Building.
The zoo said snowy owls are listed as vulnerable to extinction by the IUCN Red List.
To create genetic diversity within the species, Akron Zoo said it participated in the Snowy Owl Species Survival Plan, a breeding plan that achieves this mission across zoos accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.
