AKRON, Ohio — Exactly two years ago, Stow firefighters were summoned to a home on Ridge Meadow Drive.
As flames consumed the home where the Altomare family, some friends here to compete in the International Soap Box Derby, and their dog were all staying, everyone was safely out of the home except for 12-year-old Keegan Altomare.

“I heard the fire alarms, and then I rushed up to the door, and I saw a crack, and there was a big glowing light…in the hallway,” Keegan told Fox 8 News. “The whole place was on fire, like I could barely see the rooms were, like stuff was falling off of the walls.”
“At that point we couldn’t get back in the front door, it was completely engulfed. Brett, who was staying with us, his daughter races with Keegan, him and a neighbor, Ryan down the street here they both went in and started breaking windows trying to figure out how to get into the house, and so they were able to go in the back side of the house and get Keegan out of there,” his father Kevin said…
