OHIO — Confidence is rapidly increasing for a potentially significant severe weather event across northern Ohio Saturday, with the highest risk concentrated over Cleveland, Akron, Canton, and Youngstown. Forecasters warn of tornado potential, damaging winds up to 75 mph, and large hail within the highest-risk zone stretching along the Interstate 71 and 80 corridors.

Areas outside the highest-risk zone, including Toledo, Columbus, and Dayton, still face a lower but present threat, with damaging winds remaining the primary concern and an isolated tornado not ruled out.

Storms Expected to Race Through at 50 Plus MPH

Forecasters say storms will move rapidly Saturday, racing through at speeds exceeding 50 mph as they dive south from Michigan and Canada. This fast motion could produce wind swaths exceeding 70 mph, creating fast-developing impacts rather than a typical slow-moving summer thunderstorm pattern.

Any rogue supercells could develop between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m., followed by the main line of storms sweeping through the region between 4 p.m. and 10 p.m. Saturday evening.
