GREEN — 115 new rental units are being proposed to be constructed on approximately 27.8 acres on Stein Road near Massillon Road and Interstate 77.
Redwood Living Inc. is requesting to rezone the wooded and vacant property from I-1 (General Industrial) to R-2 (Multi-Family Residential). The site consists of three parcels of land, which are currently owned by RJS Corp. Plans show the 115 units would be spread between 24 buildings on the site and consist of 14 one-bedroom units, 68 two-bedroom units and 33 three-bedroom units.
A report by the city’s Planning Department raised concerns with the proposal, stating the city’s comprehensive land use plan identifies industrial development near I-77 as a desired long-term outcome. The report detailed that approving the rezoning would permanently take these 27.8 acres out of the city’s industrial land inventory and put residential units in an area built around industrial uses. Concerns were also raised if the proposed housing were to move forward, those residents would be exposed to truck traffic, lighting, noise and extended operating hours for nearby industrial properties…
