Safety forces in Portage and Mahoning counties will take time on Sept. 11 to honor those who died 25 years ago in the terrorist attacks.
Ceremonies will take place in Streetsboro and Ravenna, where both cities’ fire departments have memorials that include beams from the Twin Towers in New York. And a Kent State University regional campus also will conduct an observance that is open to the community.
Kent State University event
Kent State University’s East Liverpool campus in Mahoning County plans a free community program to remember the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. The “Never Forget Community Remembrance Sept. 11, 2001” will run 4 to 7 p.m. Sept. 10 at Purinton Hall.
The community is invited to join the ceremony, which will recognize the service and sacrifice of first responders and remember the victims of the attacks. The event will include emergency vehicle displays, a blood drive with the American Red Cross and other community activities. All first responders will receive remembrance pins.
Streetsboro ceremony
Streetsboro Fire Chief Robert Reinholz said the city’s ceremony will start at 9:55 a.m., with firefighters proceeding to the memorial. After remarks by the fire department at 9:58 a.m., Joshua Lampa will sing the “Star-Spangled Banner.”…
