AKRON, Ohio — Summit County property owners whose homes were damaged in last week’s severe storms may qualify for a reduction in their property’s appraised value, potentially lowering the tax bills next year.
Summit County Fiscal Officer Kristen M. Scalise announced that residents can apply for a valuation deduction for property damaged during the Sept. 4 storms, which brought torrential rain, flash flooding, large hail and damaging winds to parts of the county.
The deduction applies to the reduction in a property’s value caused by storm damage. Qualifying property owners can receive a deduction equal to 50% of the documented damage amount, as the storms occurred in September…
