1 dead, 2 injured after car strikes Spectrum truck in Kent

One man is dead and two others were injured Monday night when a car struck the back of a parked Spectrum truck on Lake Street in Kent.

Kent Police Lt. Mike Lewis said Tuesday that a Spectrum employee reported he was removing equipment from the bucket truck to work on a pole just east of Edgewood Drive when an eastbound Chevrolet Malibu crashed into the back of the truck at 8:46 p.m.

The car’s passenger, William A. Williams, 55, of Kent, was declared dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, Lewis said.

Lewis said the Spectrum employee, a 33-year-old Akron man, was taken to Summa Health System’s Akron Campus and the Malibu’s driver, a 50-year-old Kent man, was taken to Cleveland Clinic Akron General Hospital. Both suffered serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Lewis said speeding and alcohol are believed to be factors, but the crash is still under investigation.

The road was closed for several hours after the crash, Lewis said, as the Summit Metro Crash Response Team was called in to investigate.
