Local man sentenced in accident that hurt deputy

STOW, Ohio (WKBN) – A man from North Lima accused of running over a deputy outside a concert at Blossom was sentenced Tuesday.

Bernard Spurio, Jr. pleaded no contest and was sentenced to a 60-day suspended jail sentence and a $500 fine plus costs, with $200 suspended on the condition that he obey all laws for one year.

Spurio was also fined $150 for a right-of-way violation traffic violation.

Investigators say Spurio hit a Summit County deputy with his pickup truck and that the trailer he was hauling ran over the deputy outside the Jason Aldean concert at Blossom Music Center on July 20, 2023.

According to a police report, Spurio was hauling a trailer on Steel Corners Road and failed to stop at a stop sign, striking the deputy with the front of his pickup. Reports said that witnesses saw the tires of the trailer he was hauling travel over the deputy while he was on the ground.

Reports said the injured deputy was taken to Akron City Hospital with critical injuries

His no-contest plea averted a trial.
