Garfield Heights mom on crusade to get barriers replaced to protect kids walking to school

GARFIELD HEIGHTS, Ohio (WOIO) – A Garfield Heights mother is on a crusade to get concrete barriers that were removed during an improvement project on Interstate 480 replaced. Shawnya Hamilton tells 19 News that the removal of the barriers between the sidewalks and the street poses a serious safety concern. Especially because she says hundreds of children use the sidewalks on the bridge to walk to and from the high school, middle school, or one of the elementary schools, “I hate it. This is the third year my children have had to walk home and I just hate that they have to, it’s too busy, and now that they’ve moved the guardrails it’s like oh my goodness,” Hamilton said.
